Mikel Arteta labeled criticism of Willian as something normal after the Brazilian national player was heavily criticized by Arsenal legend Tony Adams.
Willian made 18 Premier League appearances (EPL) since joining The Gunners from Chelsea for free but struggled to show his best performance and still failed to score any goals for Arsenal.
On the other hand, 19-year-old Bukayo Saka has scored five goals in 21 league appearances this season while 20-year-old Emile Smith Rowe has shown a stunning performance in midfield – a situation that prompted Adams to dispute the club’s decision to bring in Willian. in addition to the newcomer to the club last month, Martin Odegaard.
Arteta admits there is pressure for Willian to perform well while saying about the criticism: “I do not say it is something unfair.
“Expectations against Willian and the goals he can score, the help he can produce. It’s normal for people to write about him.
“We need to protect it as much as we can,” he said.
