Simone Inzaghi has resigned as Lazio’s head coach amid rumors linking him to fill a similar vacancy at Inter Milan.
The 45 -year -old operator spent five years of his management career at the Stadio Olimpico, where he also served for 11 years as a player.
Inzaghi led Lazio to emerge Coppa Italia champions of the 2018-19 season and won two Supercoppa Italiana titles in 2017 and 2019 besides ending the club’s 13-year wait to qualify for the Champions League (UCL).
He was initially expected to extend his contract with the Biancocelesti squad which expires at the end of next month but it has now been confirmed that the former Italy international will leave the club.
Lazio released a statement on their official website yesterday but did not mention Inzaghi’s name in the statement.
“We respect the change of mind of the coach, who was previously a player who spent many years as a Lazio family and contributed to various successes for Biancocelesti,” the statement said.
