MANCHESTER: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Manchester United will open talks with Edinson Cavani over a new contract ‘in the near future’.
The 34-year-old Uruguay striker joined United on a free transfer after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired.
Cavani signed a one-year contract with the option of extending it for another 12 months.
But after quickly becoming the main choice of attack at Old Trafford, Solskjaer confirmed he wanted Cavani to sign a new deal.
The Man Utd boss revealed: “I can say Edinson played well.
“I was impressed with him, he was really compatible with the group.
“We will sit down and talk to him in the near future to see his plans as well as our plans.
“It will be a good discussion. We always talk to the players.
“And with his contract situation at the moment, we’re happy with what he did.”
Despite standing out with United since last summer’s transfer by scoring seven goals in 24 games, Cavani has been linked with a move to join Marcos Rojo in Argentina with Boca Juniors.
