LONDON: Liverpool were given a great clash in the Champions League against Real Madrid with Jurgen Klopp happy his squad managed to dodge rivals from the Premier League.
Klopp admits he wants Liverpool to avoid Manchester City and Chelsea in the Champions League draw.
The Reds were drawn against Real Madrid in the last eight, which is also a repeat of the 2018 final.
The squad from England sent more representatives than any other country in the draw but all did not meet each other.
Chelsea will face Porto while City will face Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp admits he wants to avoid domestic opponents so he’s glad they haven’t met a challenger from the Premier League.
He told the club’s website: “I think we’re all the same: Bayern don’t want to meet Dortmund, for example, because they’re from the same country and for us, it’s City and Chelsea.
“If we can dodge them for as long as possible, we’ll do it, but it’s over, obviously we’re going to face a tough opponent.”
Liverpool lost to Madrid in the final three years ago but then won the tournament.
The squad from Spain is in the process of change after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018.
Madrid have failed to reach the quarter -finals in the last two seasons, but Klopp remains aware they will face a winding path.
